BLOG ROUNDUP

As the pace at which technologies are evolving continues to accelerate, the need for evergreen and consumable readiness training is more important than ever before. At Microsoft Ignite we introduced learning paths: a series of connected learning modules including sessions, hands-on experiences, technical workshops, and certifications. By continually building on previous modules a learner can develop a comprehensive set of skills throughout the event while being connected with the leading experts in those solution areas. While Microsoft events are always a fun and educational experience, you don’t need to be attending one to get started – queue Microsoft Learn! Microsoft Learn provides a new approach to learning by offering on-demand dynamic and interactive experiences to help you achieve your technical and professional goals faster. Through self-guided learning paths, you can take charge of your own learning and choose the expertise level you’d like to achieve. Even more rewarding, Microsoft Learn gamifies learning by enabling you to track progress, check knowledge, and validate deployments to earn points, levels, achievements, and trophies. Start your learning off by taking just a few of the free, bite-sized modules on relevant solutions or walk through an entire learning path to set yourself up to achieve an industry-recognized certification! For Microsoft 365 we are thrilled to offer a collection of 22 learning paths ranging from collaborating with Microsoft Teams to protecting your organizational data and information with Microsoft 365! We’ve included some of our most popular learning paths directly below to jump straight into your learning!

We’ve all unintentionally let an important task slip through the cracks, or missed an email telling us that an urgent task is no longer all that important after we’ve spent hours trying to complete it (and could have been working on something else). Back in August, we added a Priority field* to tasks in Microsoft Planner. Now you can set a task’s priority—Urgent, Important, Medium, or Low—to add more detail to your tasks. You can also now use the Group by Priority feature to view all tasks in a Bucket to help you get clear visibility into next steps; to shift priorities, all you have to do is drag and drop.

Real time engagement and discussion is a core functionality of Yammer. However, occasionally, you may need to schedule a Yammer post. By using a Microsoft Flow you can set up a simple Yammer to post at a specific time. Here are a few ideas of what you could use this for: (1) Team promotions, (2) Training schedules, (3) New Hire introduction messages, (4) Campaigns — for example, you might post how-to tips post on Tuesdays, #throwbackthursdays of your organizations, (5) Culture Shout outs, and (6) Schedule questions to post during a YamJam. You can add topics to the post. If you are an admin, you can also post the schedule post as an announcement. There are a few limitations with using this Flow. For example, you cannot tag members, use rich text formatting or add any images.

We are excited to announce some great new videos to help you familiarize yourself with the Microsoft Cloud security, privacy and risk practices! If you are performing risk and security assessments you could benefit from these videos to learn how Microsoft is managing risks appropriately to ensure your customer data is secure and protected. A Cloud Adoption Risk Assessment requires a thorough understanding of your Cloud Service Provider (CSP)’s security, privacy, and risk practices. These videos are designed to help you understand how Microsoft deploys a “defense in depth” strategy to secure hardware, software, and processes to safeguard customer data. Every business has different needs along their journey to the cloud and these videos are a great way to easily get information regarding the fundamentals of our cloud environment. We have six videos in all, and they can be found on Microsoft Office 365 YouTube Channel.

The traditional firewall (VPN security model) assumed you could establish a strong perimeter and then trust that activities within that perimeter were “safe.” As we digitally transform our companies, we need to transform our security model to one which assumes breach. The model should explicitly verify activities and automatically enforce security controls using all available signal, and employ the principle of least privileged access. This model is commonly referred to as “Zero Trust.” We have published a new whitepaper to help you understand the core principles of Zero Trust along with a maturity model. It breaks down requirements across the six foundational elements to help guide your digital transformation journey. | Related: Traditional perimeter-based network defense is obsolete-transform to a Zero Trust model

The working world is increasingly mobile and organizations contain growing numbers of remote workers who mostly, sometimes, or never come into the office. The new Empower your remote workers scenario (https://aka.ms/m365eremoteworkers) shows how you can design and configure a set of Microsoft 365 Enterprise infrastructure capabilities and workloads to allow your remote workers to work from anywhere and at any time in a highly collaborative, productive, and secure way. Empowering remote workers is a great example of how the products, services, and features in Microsoft 365 Enterprise can be combined to address both a core IT service requirement and a business productivity need. | Resource: Empower remote workers poster

In our previous blog post we covered an overview of what migration endpoints are, how to find them and what makes them tick. In this post, we will cover related troubleshooting. Note that this post has some in-depth troubleshooting steps, so it is not necessarily something that you’ll read for fun, but we wanted to make it available for those times when you run into trouble! Now let’s cover some troubleshooting! Whether you are having trouble creating new migration endpoints in Office 365 Exchange Online or are not able to migrate anymore to or from Exchange Online using an existing migration endpoint, the cmdlet Test-MigrationServerAvailability is your dear friend. Always run this cmdlet in Exchange Online PowerShell, not from on-premises Exchange Management Shell.

Many high-security organizations offer secure password-less access to corporate data using smart cards. The end user does not have their username and password. Employees and contractors use physical smart card readers to authenticate themselves for secure access to desktops and laptops. Smart cards provide seamless and secure authentication to apps, websites, Wi-Fi, and VPN as well as enable the use of S/MIME to sign and encrypt email. With mobile user productivity becoming commonplace in enterprises, many government and high security customers wonder how to embrace mobility while still maintaining a highly secure environment. When we think about a standard mobile device enrollment experience, the end user begins by entering their username and password which enrolls their device. Various policies, including certificates, are then pushed to the device without further user interaction. Since smart card users don’t have their passwords, how do they authenticate if they can’t plug their smart card into their phone? Microsoft Intune is excited to announce support for derived credentials on iOS devices, and (coming soon) the ability to use derived credentials for S/MIME signing and encryption with Microsoft Outlook for iOS and Android.
